"ANGELO LEONE ALATO" "ANGEL, WINGED LION"

Updated: Feb 17

This piece represents the evangelist St Mark pictured in the form of a winged lion. This is the symbol of my dear city of Venice that I love and was also the symbol of the Republic of Venice. The first picture shows the piece in the final stage of modifications on the table ready to be installed for an event in Palazzo Van Axel the following day. It took about 100 hours to create and finish this huge piece nearly 75 cm high and 90 cm wide.

These pheasant feathers have been bleached to lose a little bit of their original and natural colour, then cut and individually attached. The wings have been re-created entirely re-cutting and fixing feathers on a complex structure, as it can be difficult to find natural wings from the same bird of that size, shape and... in good condition.

The piece is now owned by a private collector since 2016
